Depression, unlike passing feelings of sadness or “the blues,” is a serious illness that can affect every aspect of daily life including sleep, energy levels, concentration, and appetite. Symptoms of depression typically last longer than 2 weeks, and in most cases are treatable with the help of a psychiatrist or psychotherapist.

Depression affects every individual differently, and men and women typically exhibit different symptoms of depression. However, there are common symptoms that may indicate someone is depressed. These symptoms include:
