Anxiety Disorders

It is completely normal to feel anxiousness from time to time as a result of stressful situations or events. However, when anxiety begins to manifest itself in panic attacks or other debilitating episodes, it has become a problem that can interfere with everyday life. The five major anxiety disorders are Generalized Anxiety Disorder (GAD), Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder (OCD), Panic Disorder, Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) and Social Anxiety Disorder (Social Phobia).

Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) is a serious, potentially debilitating condition that can occur in people who have experienced a traumatic event. Examples of such events include sudden death of a loved one, serious accidents, natural disasters, terrorist incidents, war, violent personal assaults such as rape, or other life-threatening events.

Everyone experiences stressful events that can affect them both physically and mentally. Usually these stresses are temporarily and the individual can move on from them without lasting problems. However, certain individuals are unable to cope with catastrophic events and as a result they develop Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder.

Using a combination of psychotherapy and medication techniques, Dr. Gersman has had great success in helping individuals overcome anxiety disorders and depression, as well as manage panic and fear.
